Jockey Alex Birzer

Born: 10/02/73, Hutchinson, KansasResides: Council Grove, KansasFamily: Bonnie, wife; Jordan LeAnn, daughter; Brett and Colby, sons.             Alex, a popular figure at Oaklawn, is off to a good start at this meeting. He returned here in 2009 after having been away for three years. Last year at Oaklawn he won with 20 of his 198 mounts,

sufficient for tenth place on the meeting’s final standings.“I started coming to Oaklawn 13 years ago. My family likes the track and we all like Hot Springs,” mentioned the jockey.

             At Oaklawn in 2003, his victories included Patton’s Victory in the $100,000 Fifth Season. He moved on to Prairie Meadows where he and Patton’s Victory won the $75,000 Prairie Meadows Handicap and $50,000 Precisionist. Asked to name favorites among horses he's ridden, Birzer said, "Patton’s Victory, Answer to Jordan,  Maggie’s Dream, Dynamic Asset,  Kilarney Blarney, Soup For Lunch and Cockabur Man. “Alex’s circuit is Oaklawn, Prairie Meadows andRemington. On four occasions he has been the leading rider at Woodlands. Under its section on remarkable riding feats, the American Racing Manual makes known that on August 15, 1997, Alex rode eight races at Columbus, Nebraska, winningsix.“ That happened the day after our daughter Jordanwas born,” Birzer recalled.
